Recently, the ideas of hardware evolution and self-reproducing hardware by using concepts derived from natural systems have received an increasing amount of interest. This led to the first international workshop towards evolvable hardware held in Lausanne last year. Following the success of the workshop, ICES96 will be held in Japan.
Topics of particular interest include evolvable hardware systems, self-repair/reproduce hardware, evolutionary hardware design methodology, and so on, but are not limited to these. The objective of the conference is to bring together researchers who use biologically inspired concepts to implement real systems in artificial intelligence, artificial life, robotics, VLSI design and related fields.
